What is 94.9 CHRW’s Local Album of the Year all about?
The 94.9 CHRW Local Album of the Year honours Londoners who have recorded an exceptional full length album. The prize will award a local band $500 and an opportunity to play a live session at the CHRW Studios. All genres of music are considered for the CHRW Local Album of the Year prize.

A group of local music journalists and broadcasters will be selected to act as a jury to come up with a short list of 10 exceptional local albums. The winner from the Top 10 will be announced on Friday, January 15th‘s edition of the Cross Hairs (3:30-6:00pm) hosted by 94.9 CHRW’s, Michael Brown and Alanna Mager.

Eligibility
How is my music considered for the Album for the Year?
94.9 CHRW Local Album of the Year nominees and winners will be selected solely on artistic merit without regard to genre, sales history or label affiliation. Nominees are local artists who have submitted their music into the 94.9 CHRW music library.

What genres of music will be considered?
All forms of contemporary music (including, but not limited to, pop, rock, hip hop, R&B, electronic, experimental, jazz, classical, instrumental, country and blues, or any combination of the above, and including genres not mentioned or invented at the time these rules where written) are eligible for the 94.9 CHRW Local Album of the Year.

What is an “album”?
An album is defined as at least 25 minutes of music, or at least 8 songs. Compilations of previously released recordings, including remixes, are not eligible. Records with bonus tracks that bring the total tracks or running time over these minimums are also not eligible.

When does my album need to be released for consideration?
For the 2009 year, albums must have been released commercially on CD between December 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009.

What is a commercial release?
A commercial release is defined as a) available for purchase in Canada at any bricks and mortar retailer or b) available for purchase digitally in Canada from any recognized digital retailer or artist website c) available through an artist website either directly from the artist or via a recognized internet fulfillment operation.

Do I need to live in London?
Solo artists must be from London or surrounding area. For bands, at least 50% of members must currently live in London or surrounding area.

*Any additional interpretations of the rules shall be at the sole discretion of 94.9 CHRW staff. All rulings are final.

Jury Process
How is the music for the album of the year chosen?
All artists selected for the 94.9 CHRW Local Album of the Year must have the considered piece submitted and accepted to the 94.9 CHRW music library. Any submission (independent or major label release) will be reviewed and considered for addition into the music library by the music department. 

Who is the jury?
The jury will be composed of people who regularly dedicate their time to discover the local music scene in all genres of music. The jury will be selected from a pool of dedicated broadcasters at 94.9 CHRW, music journalists and community members involved in the music industry.

How does the jury vote?
Each juror will look over the list of local music submitted to the 94.9 CHRW music library during the qualifying period. The jurors will submit a list of 5 artists and albums that will produce Top 10 local artists of the year. The winner will be chosen by a smaller group of jurors and will be announced on Friday, January 15th, 2010.

When will the winner be announced?
The winner will be announced on Friday, January 15th‘s edition of the Cross Hairs (3:30-6:00pm) hosted by 94.9 CHRW’s, Michael Brown and Alanna Mager. 

What is the prize?
The winning local artist will receive $500 and a live in studio session to be scheduled in the next qualifying year by the artist and 94.9 CHRW.
